What do I do if my flight is cancelled and I must stay an additional night?
First, rebook your travel with your airline.  This can be done by calling reservations or rebooking on your airline’s website or app.  If your rebooked flights necessitate an additional night at your location, call StayAspenSnowmass, the official reservations center for the Aspen/Snowmass area. They would be happy to try to secure a room for you. See “Hotels” on this site for hours and other reservations options.

 

If my flight is cancelled can I spend the night at the airport?
For your comfort, we advise securing a hotel room for the night.  This can be done by calling reservations or rebooking on your airline’s website or app.  If your rebooked flights necessitate an additional night at your location, call StayAspenSnowmass, the official reservations center for the Aspen/Snowmass area. If you are having problems finding accommodations, please contact the Airport Information Booth in Baggage Claim at the airport for assistance.  Their phone number is 970-920-5380.  The Aspen/Pitkin County Airport closes at 11:00 pm and does not open again until 5:00am.

 

How can I find out when my luggage will arrive if it's being trucked in?
Your airline will post the latest available information about your luggage on this site. Simply click on the information box for your airline.  For specific information on your bag please contact your airline directly.

 

My luggage was trucked to Aspen and got here before I did. How soon will it be delivered to me at my hotel or residence?
Your airline will make every effort to get your luggage delivered to you as soon as possible. Once your luggage arrives at your destination, specific information regarding individual deliveries is not possible.

 

What are my transportation options to my connection if flights get cancelled?
First, check with your airline to see what ground transportation arrangements may have made for you. The most up-to-date available information can be found on this site under your airline.

How long will it take to drive to the Denver Airport and what kind of drive is it?
Denver International Airport is 220 miles from Aspen and approximately 3.5 hours by car in good weather and considerably longer in snowy conditions. See “Driving” on this site for more information. Real–time Colorado road conditions may be found at www.cotrip.org.

 

When will the airlines provide ground transportation? How will I know about it?
Check this site under your airline to find out the latest available information from your airline. You can also check this site for information regarding making your own rental car or car service arrangements.

 

If I leave the airport how will I be able to track my flight and/or ground transportation being arranged to get me to my connection?
This site is designed to be read on your mobile devices. Look under your airline for the latest available information about your flight and/or transportation arrangements.

 

If my plane is diverted to another city, what can I expect from the airlines?
Airline policies governing diversions are outlined under the “Airline Policies” section of this site. Also check your airline’s news feed on this site.

 

What are the most common reasons flights divert to other airports? What airports do they most commonly divert to?
Overall airlines flights are over 90 percent reliable.  They can however cancel or divert for a number of situations.  If the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is experience snow, low clouds or high winds this may cause flights to be canceled or diverted.

If you are on a long haul flight into Aspen from Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas you would likely be diverted into Grand Junction, Colorado.  Your airline will communicate with you the next steps, but they do have some busing capacity to get you up to Aspen.

If you are on a Denver to Aspen Flight you will likely be diverted back to Denver.  Please refer to the website or contact their customer service for options up to Aspen. 

 

It's a clear day, why are there so many cancellations? 
This is not very likely to happen, but there are a few days a year when the airport can have air traffic that reaches the capacity of the airport.  There are a number of protocols and procedures in place to limit the impacts to our customers.
