Dates for 2026 Pavement Maintenance at Aspen/Pitkin County Airport Announced
PITKIN COUNTY, COLO. (9/30/2025) — Aspen/Pitkin County Airport has announced the dates for its annual spring closure to complete required airfield pavement maintenance. The airport will be closed from Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 9 a.m. until Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 7 p.m.
In recent years spring maintenance has been required on the ASE runway and taxiway to address aging pavement. This annual work ensures the airport remains a safe and reliable transportation facility for both commercial and general aviation users.
The closure schedule was designed in coordination with aviation partners and community schedule to minimize disruptions in 2026. The airport will close at 9 a.m. on April 23, allowing evening flights from the day prior to depart before the shutdown. The reopening is scheduled for 7 p.m. on May 21, enabling aircraft repositioning for a full schedule the following day.
“This closure approach has been well-received in recent years, and we are continuing the practice in 2026,” said Airport Director, Diane Jackson. “We’re also pleased to complete the work ahead of the Memorial Day holiday, with a second phase of improvements taking place overnight later in the season to avoid an additional runway closure.”
Passengers are encouraged to contact their airline directly for travel arrangements, while general aviation inquiries should be directed to the airport’s Fixed Base Operator, Atlantic Aviation.
In 2024, voters approved a measure to allow for a full runway upgrade at Aspen/Pitkin County Airport, scheduled for completion in 2027. Once this work is finished, annual spring closures will no longer be required.
